Cleveland police officer Micael Brelo was acquitted of manslaughter on Saturday in an Ohio courthouse by Judge John P. O’Donnell.
On November 29th of 2012 police responded to reports of gunfire from the suspects vehicle. Following a high speed pursuit involving more than 100 officers that covered 20 miles and reached speeds over 100 mph the chase came to an end in a middle school parking lot. At this time officer Micael Brelo climbed on top of the suspects car and began to open fire. 15 fatal shots later and the two unarmed African-American occupants of the vehicle died. Prosecutors later determined that the “gunshots” reported was backfire coming from the car’s engine.
